It's possible but not likely. My girlfriend's friend's fiancé works in retention at Barclays so I can ask him if this is even a factor.
Had an interesting experience in Walmart last weekend when my girlfriend went to use her new chip+pin Arrival+ to make a purchase. The cashier immediately noticed the card asked her to insert it in to the slot at the bottom of the terminal instead of swiping it. First time I've ever actually had a real C+P experience.
