1. Find a 3x that might not save you as much but you could use in the future? Maybe going somewhere warm. But leaves from your home airport.
2. Split your trip up. Seems quite ripe for an award ticket
3. Be prepared for the worst, but afaik 3x is generally a very safe construction

Oh... what does "quite ripe for an award ticket" mean? Originally I thought you meant that I might not get the miles if I miss the 3X leg, but now I'm thinking you're referring to something else.
