I'm okay with it as-is. Yes, I know, companions have to sometimes travel on separate PNRs (business v. pleasure, use of certs, etc) but more often than not, two passengers on the same plane with different PNRs have no relation to one another - and allowing blind "companionship" would have probably led to an "upgrade connection forum", abuse, and then a ban - leaving us back to where we are now.
