I am looking to book a one-way IAH-EWR. I am considering one of the connecting flight options since they are much cheaper than the non-stops. The connecting flight options are thru airports such as AUS, MSY, TPA, FLL.
My concern with these options is that since I will be checking a bag, will I be more likely to have issues with my bag making the connection at one of these outstation airports versus at a hub? I would imagine that these airports don't have many UA bags making connections, so it seems like a sure way to increase the odds of losing the bag...
I'm also thinking it would be worth booking it just to grab the price then hope for a better (non-stop) option thru SDC, but in mid-July this could be risky as well...
I would recommend that you be very careful with this - especially if you really need to get there... Also I would not want any of those segments to be on any UX flights. I would worry less about luggage and more about you getting there - especially with how UA has been operating lately...
