You're right about the biometrics being a crazy setup but hopefully it'll be much better in T2 than the current setup in T1. I'm looking forward to finding out in September when I next fly to Ireland on EI.
The setup in T2 is more like T5, where the photo check will be by the gate, you won't have to pass through to a segregated area.
