I booked my friend's ticket using her husband's last name, forgetting that she still used her maiden name. (And the maiden name was more than 2 letters longer) It was not easy....took a couple hours and lots of persuading to get it done, but they finally did it - no fee. Luckily she had her marriage license with her showing that she had gotten married and the name should be hers, but technically since she hadn't changed her name they didn't have to do it.

To complicate matters, we were flying J from Houston to DOH (on that ticket her name was correct, using maiden name....and that ticket continued to Bali). But, on the layover in DOH, we did a diversion to Victoria (Seychelles) on a separate ticket (Coach).

So - the folks in Houston were useless, but did say...."maybe they can help you in Doha"). In Doha it was a huge battle, but partly I think because Houston had sent us on our way with a connecting ticket that they knew wasn't totally correct.
