I'm a little confused and hoping to get some clarification on booking this award. I want to fly ORD-PPT. There is a published fare from TN for this route. When I call AA to book the award, do I simply ask for ORD-PPT or do I ask for LAX-PPT and then try and add on ORD-LAX? Will I have better routing options if I try to add ORD-LAX later? I tried searching on AA.com (for HA) and all the awards have 3 or so stops for the ORD-LAX leg.

If I try to add on ORD-LAX at a later date, does that count as a different award and will it incur any fees (since I already booked the LAX-PPT award)? Just trying to understand the process.
