Will airline or lounge hold luggage during 20 hr long layover?
My EgyptAir flight lands in Cairo CAI in early August at around 6 am local time. We fly out at 2 am, also EgyptAir. For complicated reasons, we will probably need to carry-on our luggage on the departing flight to YYZ.
We fly from CPT to JNB on SAA, then JNB to CAI on EgyptAir. What I'd really like to do is to short-check our luggage from CPT to CAI, then have the lounge or airline hold our larger items while we go on a daytime excursion in Cairo (pyramids, etc). This would be ideal. If short-checking is not possible, we would have to carry-on from the first flight in CPT, but I'd still like to do our excursions in Cairo without holding heavy luggage piece. For what it's worth, we're flying business class on the EgyptAir flights. We'll thus have access to the lounge, but I don't know if this means they'll hold our bags for a whole day. Maybe the gate? Is this possible? We obviously won't have anything valuable in the bags.
