+1. If the two of you will be traveling together, I don't see much incremental benefit of her having GM status. She will already receive SkyPriority benefits and complimentary EC seating, and her improved upgrade chances as a GM would not be so great that I would pay much for difference on a single trip.
On the other hand, if she will be doing significant travel by herself in August, the GM benefits could easily justify the cost of a short mileage run.

Have you already registered for the Double MQMs promotion? This could reduce the number of MQMs you need to only 850.

There is not much to learn if you are looking for only 850/1700 MQMs. Just use Google Flights to find a quick roundtrip from SEA. Summer is generally the hardest time to find good deals, but attractive mileage runs can still be done.
