I flew into lhr yesterday on a 777. What I noticed was that, while the system was working, the baggage belt itself was too small. For a plane of that size, the bags just don't have anywhere to go. So instead of going on the belt, they sit waiting for space to open up.
That one won't be cheap to fix.
Been through new terminal twice in last two weeks - customs is a breeze but yes the belt is an issue - too small for widebodies and too sensitive to allow bags to drop - I watched my bag wait for a "space" to drop in to for an agonizingly long time (ok it was about 30 seconds)... All in all a MUCH improved LHR experience for UA....
