Why didn't HK airlines deboarded the plane much earlier, if they knew that they won't fly that evening? Being on the tarmac for 4++ hours certainly will make the pax very unahppy. They should have given hotel vouchers/food vouchers when they realised they won't fly tonight, and I'm sure the situation would have been much different. By offering them 200HK$ at 2am, I can understand many pax would prefer to stay onboard, after having had to wait for many hours already..

Seems, after all, still like very bad treatment of the passengers by HK airlines. Or maybe not very bad, more like "we don't care, go away" behaviour.

I guess that's one of the reasons why I usually will resort to flying quality carriers when having Chinese flights. And of course status also helps
I don't understand why you are kept insisting they should accommodate pax overnight in hotels.

This is ATC delay, no airline pay for ATC delays or cancellations, only for mechanicals. There is no better if you fly one of the majors like CX, at best you will only get some meal vouchers that's it. And if it is US or Canada, you don't even get meal vouchers for this kind of delay !

Passengers decided to overnight in the airplane will just be as comfortable, and as a protest against such treatment till they get at least compensated. HK$800 won't buy you a (nice) hotel in HKG, and it doesn't make up for the terrible treatment of HK Airlines who are apparently too cheap to have either a spare crew or hotel vouchers for their passengers, but at least the passengers got SOMETHING out of it.
Not just HX, but any airline would do the same.

Crew timed out due to ATC delay is still ATC delay, doesn't matter. ATC delay could affect many things, crew timed out, need to go back to gate for extra fuel, etc. As long as it is ATC related delay, no airlines are obliged to do anything.

Remember the big earthquake in Japan several years ago ? All the majors JL, NH, CX, SQ, OZ, UA, AA, DL, etc did absolutely NOTHING for their own pax !!! Pax were all stranded in NRT and HND for days sleeping in the airport floors !
