I should mention, in our ED's defense, the organization is not primarily focused on sending kids to summer camp. Its primary functions are training urban teachers to serve as debate coaches, building and supporting debate programs at low income public schools, running free debate competitions for low income public school students, working with school districts to encourage them to have debate programs, taking top competitors on chaperoned trips to national level competitions, and running a one week free summer debate camp. The ED's job is to manage all of that and bring in the money to make it possible. The trips to other, longer summer programs for 15 or so kids each summer are such a small part of the program that it is not surprising that our ED was unaware of Southwest's policy and its implications.
