One more thing if accruing miles or points is more important than status. Both AA and BA programs give additional miles or points to status holders. This is 25% extra for Bronze(BA) or Gold(AA) and 100% extra from Silver (BA) or Platinum (AA) for flights on BA, AA or US metal.

So, I would try and attain status if I were you.
