Should I even apply for NEXUS?
I have a recent minor traffic conviction on record (moving violation, no drugs/alcohol whatsoever involved...basically I got in a wreck and the officer supposedly "had to" write at least one ticket to justify the time spent at the scene). I'm not entirely sure if it's just that - a violation - or if it counts as a criminal misdemeanor. At any rate, it's kind of on the borderline where it would depend on the laws in my individual state if it's criminal or not. (While I'm not looking for legal advice, the court appearance was optional and it could be handled online, so if anyone on here knows that'd be great).
From what I understand, CBP and CBSA don't really care about speeding as long as it's within reason, but I'm not quite sure if it'd be the same story for a moving violation no matter how minor. CBSA appears to be rather strict on the matter of "dangerous driving," and this is a primary motivator for me wanting to get NEXUS status - to be more or less "pre-approved" for entry into Canada and dramatically decrease my chances of being turned away by an officer who had a bad day (if I can get approved, that is).
So my question is, given that information, is NEXUS even worth applying for, or would I be wasting my time and money (not to mention probably getting sent to secondary every time for the rest of my life for getting denied NEXUS)?
