I had no problem selecting preferred seats on US (only available to elites) once my AA Gold status was recognized in my AA profile. I don't like that US's website doesn't show our AA status or even our OW status on their end. But once I hit AA platinum it took over a month for US's system to recognize my Sapphire status. So as long as your AA profile shows status you should get the benefits. Next time, i would call US to verify your status is in the res. If its not insist they call AA to verify and notate the res. With that said, i assume the bags and priority can be given, but upgrades probably can't.
