We bash UA incessantly, then talk about switching to them when something on AA doesn't go completely our way (maybe not in this particular thread, but in general). What a crowd...
Well, living in the SF Bay Area inevitably leads one to consider United Airlines's schedule and flights. I agree that UA has been slipping, since I fly 'em a lot. But I don't turn down their SWU's and find that I do use them. And if I can't use 'em, I give 'em away to kids, grandkids, and employees. They seldom complain.

UA still dominates SFO and AA pretty much abandoned us over the past decade, even deep-six-ing the Honolulu flight. UA has, on most days, 10 or 11 flights to the Hawaiian Islands from SFO. I'm in Hawaii a lot so it works for me and family. Our other major destination is ORD---UA has 16 flights a day, to AA's 6/7, depending on season.

Even with the USAir options opening up, there is no comparison about getting to places in the Pacific, Western US, and up and down the West Coast, between UA and AA. AA might be the better carrier, but they still have to go to where I need to get to---and without connections. So it's not totally about .02/mile for the 1K status.

One has to have savvy to deploy UA's SWU's. After years of working their system, I've gotten good at it. It is doable.

I appreciate the ELT4 note from another poster and will check it out.

Thanx for comments
