I carried my backpack doing a day trip and it was fine. Luggage lockers are great, though, as you don't have to worry about living your stuff through crowds. (and as in any city, watch out for pickpockets! A group followed me near the Louve)
Buy the Batobus ticket and use the riverboat to get around. Enjoy your day!
