I am NOT advocating doing this, and I am not doing and will not do it, but what's to stop you from changing your own Dividend Miles info so that it matches someone else's name, etc. on the other person's ticket, then putting your Dividend Miles number on someone else's reservation and collecting miles from their flight? Surely US would catch that, right?
You can't make every name change online. So when you go to change it back to yours, you'll have to call US (just happened to me when my corp travel desk put in a bunch of reservations with my middle initial rather than middle name; my account had my middle name and my upgrades failed on the name mismatch). I could make the first change on my own and I could not change it back once my travel desk sorted themselves out. Had to call US to put the rest of my middle name back into the account.
