I am fairly sure that it's v-pay (only issued by Eurozone banks) or Maestro.

Clydesdale Bank and Yorkshire BS *might* be the only UK bank left that issues Maestro but that comes with hefty overseas transaction charges (min £1.50) so will not be viable. Another possibility might be the pre-paid splash plastic card. I don't think it's contactless though, but I think the canteen and NS maybe work on chips anyway. I think it charges a fixed 1% fee, although it has an annual fee of £4.95 and costs £5. I suspect it is my best bet, I just can't see another way of doing it.
