With National the terminals are considered one in the same in regards to drop off. I reserve pickup at terminal 1 because they have an emerald aisle and terminal 2 doesn't, and you have to use counter service there. I always return to terminal 2 because I always fly Southwest.
The light rail between terminals is a necessary evil when we want to have the luxury of emerald aisle service. It is a haul between the ticketing/baggage claim areas to the light rail station, especially at terminal 2, and can be a pain with lots of luggage. Also, if you are traveling during non peak train times, you may have to wait up to 30min for the train.
