Credit cards are rarely accepted in Japan. In Japan, people use cash. Credit cards are usually reserved for large purchases. If you use a credit card in a shopping center you may be limited to the amount of time that you can use it. The entire center is usually linked together and sometimes offers you the opportunity to use your card once a day. (Which is great when my wife went shopping!!!)
