I know there's no problem entering the AC when not flying AA if one is a paid member.
My AC membership is via the Citi Exec Card and has been for the last 3 years. As I said, no problem with access regardless of whether flying AA or not and EXP card is sufficient for entry. On the AAngel's screen it says something like (paraphrasing here), "membership-premium credit card"
