Oh, I'm not implying that someone at UA thought of it for airplanes, just that it is a different path from the traditional model, one that cuts refurb costs and weight of IFE in each seat. It's a different line of IFE from what has been offered in a standard evolution line since the days of pneumatic tubes piping 9 channels into your armrest, and the concept of a new method to deliver media to the seat is a completely new concept from the standard method of wiring each seat for it.

To me, advancing a current product gives incremental benefits, but coming up with an entirely new method can open new opportunities and add benefits that were not possible before. Like the x86 chip, eventually, the advancements on that design became so diminishing that an entirely new line was invented. One can only evolve so far in many things without reaching a limit, but a new design can often go far beyond the limits of the initial design.
