Amex Canada Referrals and Advice

I have booked many luxury trips in premium cabins with points accumulated primarily with Canadian cards. I will be happy to advise on all Amex and non-Amex products as well as refer to all major Canadian Amex cards. All cards have generous insurance coverage, Platinum leads the way in this.

Platinum Card - Best Travel Perks

$699 Annual Fee (please carry on reading, it is 110% worth it at least for Year 1.....)
Through referral you get 60,000 Membership Rewards (instead of 50,000) = $600 or at least 60,000 Amex/Avios miles (recurring transfer bonuses have not appeared in a long time so their future is uncertain).
1.25 MRs for every $ spent.
Annual $200 travel credit, by calendar year so in membership year 1 you get 2*$200 - i.e. now $200 to spend in 2014 and then $200 to spend in 2015.
Airport lounge programme gives lounge access at most significant airports in the world including Priority Pass unlimited access for 2 ppl with retail worth >$399 USD. Access to Premium Plaza and Centurion lounges.
Various car and hotel statuses - I benefit most from SPG Gold and Accor Platinum, Club Carlson also included and fast track 5 nights to Fairmont Plat status which others rave about.
Discounts on various airlines including 10% off all base Westjet fares.
Ultra premium insurance coverage.

Amex Aeroplus Platinum - Air Canada Benefits

$499 Annual Fee
Sign up by referral and get 51,000 Aeroplan miles (instead of 40,000).
Priority check in, boarding and unlimited Maple Leaf Lounge access when traveling Air Canada.
1.25 AP per $ and 1.5 AP per $ after spending $25,000 annually on the card
Annual 2-4-1 certificate for use on short haul (15k) NA redemption

Amex Aeroplus Gold - Maximum first year free sign up bonus, 30,000 miles
Get more with referral
$120 annual fee waived for first year
Sign up for referral and get 30,000 bonus Aeroplan miles (instead of 25,000).
1AP per $ until $10,000 spending and then 1.25AP/$.

Amex Gold Rewards - Best earn potential
$150 annual fee waived for first year
25,000 Membership Rewards for signing up, which convert to Aeroplan and Avios 1:1 and to various other airines at 0.75:1 or $250 statement trip credit.
2 MR per $ on gas, grocery, pharmacy and travel - this is the only way to get 2 miles per $ in Canada!
1 MR per $ on all other purchases.

Amex SPG - Most flexibility
$120 annual fee payable from first year
10,000 SPGs for signing up - SPGs give a great return as they can be transferred to any one of around 30 airlines at 1:1 with a 25% bonus for transferring in blocks of 20,000 SPGs. This is the only way to earn miles in Canada by credit card spend for a bunch of programmes like SQ, CX and US which have sweet spot redemptions. Redeeming for hotel nights, nights + flights and cash+point redemption can all give great value.
This is my card for all general spend not covered by a bonus category.
Sign up bonus currently slashed from previous 21,000, so I would look out for this to possibly rebound in coming months.

All cards give the chance for you to refer friends and family and allow you both to benefit from the generous referral bonuses and the "get more by referral" deals.
