Thank you for the trip report. We used to go every year in April to the Post Ranch Inn for a long weekend ( from San Francisco). We stopped about 5 years ago fir two reasons 1. Moved to London ( subsequently moved back). 2. Always stayed in the ocean houses and ate at the wonderful Sierra Mar, but thought after awhile upon returning, too many other places to go and felt the ocean houses could use a refresh! There are newer options but hard to book on weekends!
I think the ocean houses or the even better ocean view newer rooms are terrific. The food at Sierra Mar is great, but after two nights it is time to try something different. Ventana across the highway is good ( albeit nit the same view) but that is really it if you don't want to drive far , and with the winding rooms driving at night after wine is not to be recommended!
I do highly recommend if you gave mot been.
It us a lovely property, but I agree some of the older rooms could use a refresh! If you are ready to splurge ask for the newer suites with gorgeous I dean views. They are the way to go. I don't care for the rooms that look inland, but it is personal taste.
