3% on a $10,000 tax bill is $300. Paying $300 for 100,000 miles is $0.003 per mile, which is a really cheap cost to pay for AA miles. You are getting a 5-10x return of your investment if you redeem the miles for travel.
Even if you MS, you may end up paying $200 in fees anyway.
