Ok, so I spoke with MBNA, to confirm that I got approval for my new card, applied for on Jun 9th (last day of the recent promo), card will be in the mail within 10 biz days (as per usual).

Then I asked about the recent split-up of MBNA and Choice, and he confirmed that they have indeed stopped offering new cards for this hotel program. I asked him to clarify, and he said they will no longer issue new Choice Priv MCs. So, I asked him what will happen with this new card I just got approved for, and he said it will still be associated with the Choice Privs program, and that I will still get the welcome points (I'll believe it when I see them), as well as continue to earn 2 points for each $1 spent.

It doesn't really make sense to me, if they've split up, then why are they still issuing Choice points with this card? It's like they decided to not issue any more new cards, but they are still obligated to keep posting points for existing cardholders.

I tried to get more out of him, but the rep wasn't very eager to divulge any more information when I continued to grill him for more details. It was like he was fed up with the whole topic, and it was the end of his shift and he just wanted to go home.

So, now we wait to see if 24K welcome points will really get deposited into our Choice Privs accounts.
