Due to serious crisis between Mainland China and Japan+US/Vietnam/Philippines/HK, severe delays can be expected for any aircrafts from mainland China. Airforce and Airlines in China share same sky/route.

So TAKE IT EASY! It's also very common in US/CAN for delay several hours, where mostly no food/drink/compensation would be given to you. 15k asiamiles is good enough for just six hours delay.

Also, fortunately most of us have premium credit cards automatically with trip delay insurance. e.g. my AMEX Plat and Gold cover up to $500 if delay over 4 hours.

So, next time, after ensure 4 hours delay at least, go to the best airport lounge (in HKG there're a number of 24 hours lounges with some private areas) and wait for the boarding time. when come back from trip, claim it to insurance company.

My other tip: if flight is cancelled, go check-in counter to rebook asap; and then find a luxury hotel if your cc has flight delay insurance.
