Stay Report 6/13-6/15
Check-In: I arrived at 1:15 AM after a long, frustrating day of trying to get to New York (weather and ATC delays). I met Flyertalker
YEGxcited who was sharing a room with me and we completed check-in. I was told my breakfast voucher weren't ready yet as it had been too hectic but they'd send them up to the room. As this was 1:15, I asked to just pick them up the next day.
Room: We got up to the 10th floor and found a room with one King bed. Now, my reservation was for two beds and we were not told this had been changed. We came back to the desk and were told that they were really busy and things were hectic because of the delays but they would either give us a roll away or if we gave them "a few minutes" they would clean a room that wasn't ready. We chose the second option and had to wait a half hour for the new room, not much fun at 1:15 AM. During this time we observed the desk agent have a near melt down and start screaming when someone pressed the buzzer for entry to the hotel. He also refused to sell food from the 24 hour snack shop to people as he was "too busy".
We did finally get our room and it was nice enough, albeit pretty old feeling. Wifi worked well as did the shower and the bed was comfortable. Plus there were outlets next to the bed.
Breakfast/Other: Breakfast for Golds is in the lobby restaurant. Vouchers are worth $10 towards the menu (hot entrees are $13-15). A continental breakfast of fruit and three pastries but plus juice and coffee are covered by the voucher. There is a lounge but it's only for Diamonds. Hours:
- Breakfast: Monday-Friday 0630-1100. Other times breakfast in lobby
- Drinks: Monday-Thursday 1700-2200, Wine and beer and cocktails on request
- Appetizers: Monday-Thursday 1700-2000
I approached the manager about the issues and even though I'd mentioned I was Hhonors Gold I was told "I'll take care of your breakfast". When I said I'd already gotten that, she took half of the room rate off for the first night which was fair.
I like the location of this hotel (18 minutes into New York City) but I don't understand how this is a full service Hilton, it is easily the worst Hilton property I've been to. My rate was $151 (AAA) and I doubt I'll be back unless I absolutely have to be.
