I don't get why the fares are the same--that seems like an odd move. But knowing now that they are, I do understand why the website is behaving as it is: it is programmed to give you the lowest available fare class unless told differently. The fact that a higher fare class is the same price is meaningless to the reservations system. Still, it's an odd quirk of the situation.
