I wonder if the view of the "scratch finder general" was taken out of context. It is a known fact that airlines are very particular on the pre delivery inspection of their new aircraft (I remember seeing a programme on Lufthansa's inspection) and there could bee quite a few minor faults to be rectified prior to the handing over of the money.

After all when we take delivery of a new motor car most of us would check it over pretty carefully and point out any marks/scratches to the dealer and expect it to be repaired/rectified!!.
