Can you be more specific? I find the compression from the Google Playstore, and Amazon Prime too rough for my needs.
Near perfect HD titles are available for any tablet both legal and somewhat illegal (why limit yourself).
The resolution toggles between 720p and 1080p indeed but the block artefacts are rough at times.
And no IFE screen comes even close to HD, most have lousy hardware to start with but the software is almost always highly compressed

No. Not really. In Germany and especially Switzerland, the movie material is heavily censored, often whole scenes from mainstream Hollywood movies are crippled or omitted. Case in point Iron Man, Alex Cross, Jack Reacher were all edited. That sealed the deal for me regarding Europe.
And on modern tablets battery life is not a problem anymore..
They offer like 10 hours of playtime. Wouldn't be enough for my needs but then I don't use the pad very often as I prefer the IFE.
At least if LH can offer Flynet with any consistency, I was 0 for 3 on my recent flights to/from the US and Canada :-(.
Yes, ever since the 2006 disaster, no working Internet access has been available. My personal nightmare is GoGo on UA ... it reliably doesn't work but they keep logs that you were connected all the time hence no refund ...
