Might want to look into switching to Chase Sapphire preferred. It's 40k points for signup, and you get the 2x points bonus for all travel expenses, including hotels and flights, both UA and non-UA. Points transfer 1-to-1 to your Mileageplus instantaneously.
Since as a 1k you get all of the perks of the card and more with regards to boarding and bags, the only thing you will be missing out on is the 2 free club passes / year.
Sapphire (while a great card) does not give upgrades on award tickets.
As a 1K, there's a fee credit ($60?) for the UA card. I would consider getting Sapphire and keep the UA card as well.
