One thing that works in your favor at SFO is a higher priority on the upgrade list as a connecting EXP passenger. You would trump someone originating at ORD or DFW if you were connecting at either of those.

Are you really saying my experience would be better on AA? Or am I in such a competitive market that all bets are off?
I've only done one paid SFO-JFK RT this year and cleared in one direction. I don't have a lot of experience with that route so you might get a better answer on the AA forum, particularly in light of the new A321 on the route. Past experience there may not be reflective of what's going on just the last few weeks. This route, like other AA domestic routes, would qualify for a free EXP upgrade, when available.

I've had 8 nonstop segments to/from MIA from LAX or SFO and have cleared five of those. If you take the transcons off the table my domestic upgrade rate would be something over 95% as I've only missed one. When I have not cleared, I've had a comped sandwich and drink in coach as an EXP perk.

I have yet to see the comparison wiki, detailing the equivalents for each feature this 1k regularly uses. Same-day changes, free award redeposit, yada yada.
Don't think that exists. The AA forum does have a wiki that might cover some of that material. There was a thread on the UA forum about 5 years back, but so much has changed since then you can't rely on it.

AA will allow same day standby at the gate for free BUT you can get trumped by someone who pays $75 for a confirmed seat who will trump you (LINK).. Award redeposits are free at the EXP level. Awards issued from your account do not inherit your elite status like at UA.

Some of the areas where UA and AA differ are on lounge access (an EXP gets first class lounge access on international itineraries, in any fare class including awards, which is very nice in places like Hong Kong, London and Sydney with partner lounges), and an EXP gets 8 systemwides good on any published fare (no buy-ups to a higher fare) that are capacity controlled, just like UA.

You can post in the AA newbie forum if you have any other questions. They generally get a pretty prompt response there.
