UA 1k here, primary travel is shuttling between SFO and New York City (JFK or EWR), with a few Europe trips and odd US cities (from SFO) each year. Your experience is very relevant to what mine would be.
Complimentary upgrades EWR SFO happen only at very odd flight times, and are disallowed on JFK ps service. Instrument-supported upgrades on JFK ps service clear hit-or-miss for this 1K, flying JFK SFO later Thursday and returning anytime Monday, and limited by instruments on hand. One's best bet is to switch flights to known R capacity.
My two other domestic nonstops this year, SFO IND and SFO BOS, don't exist on AA but I can live with that for more upgrades.
Are you really saying my experience would be better on AA? Or am I in such a competitive market that all bets are off?
I have yet to see the comparison wiki, detailing the equivalents for each feature this 1k regularly uses. Same-day changes, free award redeposit, yada yada.
