UA requires passengers to be at the departure gate no later than T-30 and that cuts her effective connection down by 45 minutes. Not tough between any two UA gates at ORD, but not much time if there are any delays or she needs any assistance.
Very good advice. I like to leave at least two hours for international connections. Really reduces the stress. There are so many options to get from LAX-FRA, no need to pick that tight connection.

No. You can't SDC from UA metal to partner metal.
That said, F on the LH 748 would be so far superior to UA GF, I would absolutely eat any change fee to switch to that flight.
