Alaska's website shows multiple connections through SEA and PDX, but you can also book (through Alaska) SFO-LAX-DCA with the first (morning) leg on AA. Fares are not bad. LAX-DCA is tough upgrade, as described in many posts.
In additon to AA through DFW (used that many times), consider OAK-SLC-DCA on Delta (for as long as they remain a partner). One connection a day with 2+ hour layover but competitively priced (and you avoid runway construction delays at SFO this summer).
