Everytime i fly UA, i always see a billion people in the Zone1/Zone2 lines. Elite status feels like herd status with the amount of premier cards they are mailing out these days.
There have been many calculation examples posted. People who are spending "good money" are making a lot more miles now than under the current system, especially those who pay for Business/First fares.
My profile is similar to yours. I have to buy a lot of tickets within a week or so, and my PQD is at about 30 cents per PQM. I think I qualify as spending "good money". But this not a positive change, and it's not going to change the number of elites you see in boarding lines. Status qualification hasn't changed.
Sometimes you need to step back and look at the big picture, beyond your own personal benefit. What scares me is that they're coming for me and you next. We don't know how or when, but applauding changes like this just encourages more and more.
To me it's is just a screwed up incentive/disincentive. If you want to reward "good money", raise the PQD levels. You and I would still qualify, without screwing over a whole program full of people who are spending money with UA, and in some cases rewarding them less than credit card holders who technically NEVER have to spend a dollar directly with UA to earn RDMs.
You say DL must be doing something right. They are--they're poaching all UA's customers with better quality. People will put up with their FF program. But it was the opposite at UA. I think this is a dangerous move for UA at this point in time.
