The website simply doesn't support the RC room for points with Diamond discount.... And a RC room is not a standard room, that award inventory seems to be sold out.
But I'm pretty sure that if you contact the hotel something can be worked out for that RC room or even that family suite. Some things are really best done directly with the hotel instead of via GP. Asking nicely is normally the first step...
I called GP, who in turn called the hotel and said there is nothing they can do. I then called the hotel directly and was told that they have no ability to make reservations using points - only cash.
Edit: I called GP again and asked about using a Diamond suite upgrade on points+cash reservation. She said she had never tried, but she called the hotel and, lo and behold, it was done. ^ This is actually a better outcome as it's only 12,500 points per night (v. original 40k per night for a suite) + $150 (reasonable IMHE) and I get credit for the nights towards next year's status since cash is involved.
