Well, but the airlines' flight networks and customers are totally different too.
Finnair has just a single hub (HEL), right? It's based in a relatively small country. While AA has 5 "cornerstone" hubs even before the merger with US. And it's based in one of the most geographically large countries in the world.
AA has a much greater proportion of domestic travel than international travel. Is that true of Finnair also?
AA doesn't compete with Finnair. AA competes with UA and DL primarily. Why not compare AA to UA and DL then, rather than to an airline halfway across the world?
Btw, don't Finnair's miles (or whatever they call them) have a "hard" expiration (ie, no way to extend it) after just a few years?
