London - that wonderful little cheese shop

A question for those who know London well...

More years ago than I'm willing to admit the San Francisco Chronicle ran a travel piece on interesting and unique London shops just before my first trip to London. One I visited was a cheese shop that I would love to find again, but I don't remember the name so I'm hoping someone here can help me.

What I can tell you about the shop:

1. it had been there for a very long time, maybe 100+ years?
2. the staff, all gentlemen, wore striped aprons and flat straw hats
3. as you entered, the there was one step up to the wooden floor, and the main display cases were on your left.
4. it was within walking distance of the British Museum and Penhaligon's (note: my walking distance may be further than the average person's)
5. the trout pate was fabulous

Sound familiar to anyone? Or similar delightful and unique places you'd suggest?
