Please explain this for me because if not then I don't understand the meaning of the alliances. For instance I regularly flown with different airlines but I always chosen one world members. Now I have some miles with Qantas, BA, Qatar, Cathay Pacific and with Finnair. For me it would be obvious and needed to be able to transfer my miles inside these airlines to be able to upgrade using them!
If this is not the case then how does this whole thing works? What would be the smart way to collect miles in the future?
No alliance will allow you to transfer miles across member programmes (bar some very specific exceptions), but you can most certainly use your 100,000 BA Avios to book an award flight on Qatar, BA, Cathay or any other Oneworld partner (without the need to transfer).
Generally speaking for upgrades you'll need to have miles in the frequent flyer programme you are upgrading to (so AA miles to upgrade AA flights). There are of course exceptions, but this is the general rule.
