If you can find low-tier award seats on US' DCA-BOS-DCA flights, that would be a brilliant use of your Avios: 18,000 Avios and about 6 GBP should cover the cost of the roundtrip for two people. You would forgo the TP and Avios you would earn on a paid ticket, but short-haul, nonstop redemptions on AA/US are a sweet spot in the Avios redemption scheme -- and there are no surcharges on such redemptions.
Or alternatively, see if you can fly there on AA's or US's domestic first for a reasonable price. This and your next trip would get you to silver.
