Last year I missed the PLT for a few miles so I ended on Gold. If my memory stills works I was never charged extra even when Gold when selecting exit seats (Label orange with 1,2,3 or 4 stars in AA.com). Tonight I tried to change my seat on my return flight and I can not submit unless I pay a fee. Is this new? Did I miss something beside my PLT for 3K miles :-) ??

You might check your profile settings with AA, as emails where sent last year on this matter, along with the one indicating that soft landing was eliminated. Maybe you are not getting them or they are going to a junk folder. Missing PLT by 3k?, why did not do a run for it? The double RDM would be more than enough reason to do it, and you would not be in this situation. At this point, the only way GLD get preferred seating is 24hrs prior to flight time, prior to that, you only pay half what non status flyer pays.
