Mother traveling. Will need wheel chair assistance. Kolkata to JFK (New York).
Hello everyone,
I am arranging for my mother to visit me in New York (JFK)from Kolkata.
She will travel unaccompanied.
She has had surgery in December and wheel chair would be the best way to travel since she will traveling for the first time.
She speaks little english but can read and write.
Emirates has a flight via Dubai from Kolkata
Air India has a flight via Mumbai from Kolkata
Before I book my tickets I am researching if people have some experiences on this.
Flying out from Kolkata with Emirates will mean she will fly out from an indian airport - and dubai connections could be very professionally managed. I am not sure if it would be smooth in dubai - sometimes you need to take a bus and go through a security to get the transfer.
Flying out of Kolkata with Air India will mean she will have to make a transfer at Mumbai. I am not familiar how smooth that will be. But since its air india - the ground staff and flight attendants will be indian and it may go more smoothly.
Since i have never requested wheel chair assistance i was wondering if people have had experiences and if things may go more smoothly in dubai with emirates versus in mumbai (domestic -> international airport transfer) with Air India
Finally is there a best way to request this special assistance - since i dont know any better i was going to call a local office to check in. buy ticket online. call air lines and request for special assistance.
If people can share experiences i would appreciate it
regards
Jay
