I had an overnight layover in FAI when my wife and I took a quick trip to BRW and we enjoyed stopping at the North Pole gift shop...touristy but a good way to pass the time in what is frankly our least favorite city in AS. On a side note, I did ask an AS FA what her favorite and least favorite layover cities were and she said FAI was the worst with YVR being her favorite.
Its a place that grows on you and takes a bit of getting used to and you eventually really really enjoy it there. My first taste of Alaska was FAI. Moved there in the dead of winter in 1996. For the first 2 years I royally hated the place and even cursed it from time to time. Some where into the 3rd year I started to really like it there. By then you've learned the climate, how to function during winter, and those great long summer days that last all night. I ended up moving to Anchorage in 2002 for logistical reasons and other work. If the chance ever came up to live there again...I would
