You don't say when you're going. Do note that in July or August Kyoto will be blazingly hot. We adjusted our plans to do less walking and more public transportation, and found it very uncomfortable to be outside between about noon and late afternoon.

I have a wonderful book of Kyoto walking tours with I did with ease one September, we went in July last year and those same walks would have been impossible in the heat.
