Since this thread started about the Sheraton Taipei, I just went on their site and looked and noticed a price difference from 1 to 2 people on a standard rate. I have seen this in Asia and EU. If I want to bring a second person to breakfast I make the room reservation for two people. Never had an issue then. When I have not added a second person to the room AND brought that person to breakfast, the hotels which charge more for a second person will say something.

1 Person - TWD 7,800
2 Persons - TWD 8,100

300 TWD = ~$10.00 USD

For that price, I would save my points and meet my client/friend at the local Starbucks.
