OP: E+ is a seat assignment, not an upgrade. The word "upgrade" only refers to moves to premium cabins (business or first).
I wish this was true. Being silver and flying from SFO I have suffered not being able to get a aisle/window on many flights. Perhaps the flights I am taking are too popular, but I am about a 50/50 for E+ aisle/window over the past year or so.
