I looked up North Bethesda, and they charge $15/day parking. They may have waived it for your stay...due to status or something else.

I did a little more research. since parking at subway is free on weekend (one of my day there), I think I will just book whatever hotel is convenient for me to get in/out, and park at/near the metro station during my visit to the National Mall.
